Wall of Generals B&W
Wall of Generals – The ground was broken on November 1, 1921, for the Liberty Memorial in Kansas City. Among the 200,000 people attending were, then-Vice President Calvin Coolidge; Adm. Earl Beatty of Great Britain; Marshal Ferdinand Foch of France; Gen. John Pershing of the United States; Gen. Armando Diaz of Italy; and Lt. Gen. Baron Jacques of Belgium; as well as 60,000 members of the American Legion, including Harry S. Truman, who would later become America’s 33 President in 1945. The five military leaders are commemorated in a relief at the base of the memorial’s grounds. April 6, 2017, marks the centennial of America’s engagement in World War I, and the National World War I Museum and Memorial will host leaders from around the world to honor their sacrifice.
